How to check if device is eSIM compatible and carrier unlocked?

Is My Phone eSIM Compatible?

Before you buy, please confirm two things: (1) your phone model supports eSIM, and (2) your phone is carrier-unlocked. Both take less than a minute to check.

1. Check eSIM Support by Model

iPhone

iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and every iPhone 11 and later support eSIM. To confirm on your phone, dial *#06# β€” if you see an EID number, your iPhone supports eSIM.

Samsung Galaxy

Galaxy S20 series and later, Galaxy Z Flip / Z Fold series, and Galaxy Note 20 series support eSIM. (Note: some carrier-specific or regional variants do not β€” check with the *#06# EID test below.)

Google Pixel

Pixel 3 and later support eSIM, except some carrier-locked or regional models.

Other brands

Many recent Motorola, Huawei and other Android flagships also support eSIM. The quickest universal check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number appears, your device has eSIM hardware.

2. Check That Your Phone Is Carrier-Unlocked

Even an eSIM-compatible phone won't work with our eSIMs if it's locked to a carrier.

iPhone

Go to Settings > General > About and look at Carrier Lock. It should say "No SIM restrictions". If it names a carrier instead, your phone is locked β€” contact your carrier to request an unlock before your trip.

Android

Insert a SIM from a different carrier if you have one β€” if the phone connects, it's unlocked. Otherwise, check your phone's settings under Network / SIM for any lock status, or ask the carrier you bought it from.

Still Not Sure?

Contact us with your exact phone model (e.g. "iPhone 13 Pro" or "Galaxy S23 bought from Rogers") and we'll confirm compatibility for you before you order.
